Now, clearly I cannot credit the film makers with the amazing plot, but they have written an excellent version of this classic story that perfect captures the book. Yes, I've seen other versions, and they were great, but this for me is the definitive Emma.
Gwyneth Paltrow is mischievous and misguided with all the charm that this feisty heroine deserves. I've read other reviews that criticise this version - Miss Smith is too silly, there's too much humour, Mr Knightley too light hearted... Maybe I'm too kind on the film because I saw this before I read the book.
But I don't care. I love Jeremy Northam as Mr Knightley, and the wonderful chemistry between him and Gwyn. This film - and their love story - makes me happy every time I watch it. In fact the only thing that bothers me is that dodgy strap line: "This spring cupid is armed and dangerous." Really?
I'm looking forward to a relaxed weekend with family and good food - hope you have lovely plans too.
